今日は沖縄では慰霊の日と呼ばれています。
沖縄戦終結の日ですから
鎮魂の意も含めて
かつての激戦地に足を伸ばしてきました。

シュガーローフの戦いがあったこの地は
那覇の繁華街の真ん中にあります。
今では交通量も多くにぎやかな場所ですが
人目を忍ぶ様に石碑が置かれています。
石碑の周辺には御霊を慰めるかの様に
樹々も生い茂り
心を落ち着かせてくれて
鎮魂にふさわしい風景と感じます。

双方の兵士はもちろん
学徒隊や住民も含めてかなりの犠牲があったと
聞いています。

全ての犠牲者の御霊の鎮魂を祈るばかりです。

Today is the day of the end of the Battle of Okinawa in World War II. In Okinawa, it is called Memorial Day and is a holiday.

Because of the repose of the souls of the dead, I visited the former site of the fierce battle. The site where the Battle of Sugar Loaf took place is located in Naha City and is a busy place with a lot of traffic, but the area around the monument on a hill is lush with trees to comfort the spirits of the dead, and there are few people coming and going, which makes me feel calm.

I heard that not only American and Japanese soldiers but also local residents lost a great deal of lives.
I can only pray for the repose of the souls of all the victims.
